Gilda's Club ph&d Survivor Program
Your opportunity to explore ways of "giving back" through volunteering.
Due to the advances in modern medicine, there are approximately 9 million cancer survivors. Gilda's Club Founder, Joanna Bull, had a vision to include this group of people in the Gilda's Club Program, naming it ph&d.
ph&d connotes a level of an advanced journey with the cancer experience. It is reflective of survivors, those who are giving back, and those who have experienced a death.
p - perspective
You have a unique expertise in your particular cancer experience. You are the expert.
h - helping hands
With the wisdom gained due to your particular experience, you have a lot to offer to the cancer community, especially its new members.
d - discovery
Long after the treatments have ended, survivors have a deepened perspective on living and dying. Long-term survivorship challenges you to discover opportunities for growth.
Sample ph&d support group activities include:
Living With Loss
Living With Recurrence
Living With Chronic Fatigue
Family Alumni Groups
Living Beyond Cancer
Returning to the Workplace
How Hospice Works
Remembrance Night
Helping Hands Networking Group
Other ph&d activities:
Gilda's On The Go
A terrific way to share your expertise and experience of Gilda's Club outside of the Clubhouse, in the general community.
Help Gilda's On The Go with Calendar Distribution. The most important document Gilda's Club produces is our Monthly Calendar. Help us distribute it throughout the Coachella Valley.
Another way to help Gilda's On The Go is through participation in Health Fairs. Work at our Gilda's Club booth at health fairs and other events throughout the Coachella Valley. We provide the tent, table, chairs, brochures & all other materials - you provide the smile and knowledge of Gilda's Club to share with the public.
Buddy Buddy
The full array of support groups and social activities can be initially overwhelming for anyone. Pair up with a new Member and help them through their first month. It's a wonderful experience for a long-time Member - a way to share expertise and experience one-on-one with someone who most can use it.
Speakers Bureau
Opportunities abound to present the magic of Gilda's Club to specific audiences - in a classroom, a community center, a spiritual congretation, or a rotary luncheon. Sharing your expertise as a cancer survivor, and your experience as a Gilda's Club Member, is fulfilling for both your audience and yourself.
Noogiefest
This Halloween-themed party for Members and their children is our biggest event of the year! We have fun activities set up in each room of the Clubhouse, plus lunch and plenty of treats. Your help in this activity would be greatly appreciated!
Social Events
The Clubhouse is a place for Members to relax, socialize and bond together during the cancer experience. At least once a month, we throw a party to celebrate that. We need help planning, decorating, setting-up, cleaning up, and most important of all, interacting with the Members by joining in games, food and fun!
