Two support groups conducted in Spanish have been added at the main location in Cathedral City.
One is for cancer patients, the other for their spouses or other loved ones, who, like the patient, are also affected by the cancer diagnosis. Healthcare professionals Graciela Cortés, MFTI and Angelica Guajardo, MFTI, lead these Spanish-language groups. In addition, the special children’s group, led by bilingual facilitator Vicky Pulido, LCSW, is conducted either in Spanish or English, as needed. Together, these groups ensure that families receive all the support they need.
The support groups provide the opportunity for participants to explore how cancer has affected them, their family and their social relationships. Dinner is provided beforehand, so that individuals and families may eat together and decompress a little from the day before going into their specific groups.
A brief orientation and interview are all that’s needed to be assigned into an appropriate group.
